Purple Unions is Gay Owned and Operated:

Purple Unions is a labor of love for us. We’re Scott & Mark, a gay couple who met in 1992 and legally married in 2008. We want to help others find welcoming, friendly and supportive wedding vendors to plan your day together.

We started our original site, Purple Roofs, in 1998 with a simple concept – build an extensive, updated directory of gay, lesbian, and gay friendly bed and breakfasts. PurpleRoofs.com is now one of the most popular gay and lesbian travel directories on the web, leading Out Traveler magazine to call us “a superb directory”, and ranking us over Orbitz and Expedia for ease of use and great features.

We started Purple Unions in 2003, just as the marriage equality movement was taking off in the United States. We hoped to one day marry each other, and we wanted to create a gay friendly directory where gay and lesbian couples could plan their own wedding day with the help of supportive wedding vendors of all types.

On January 1st, 2008, we launched our blog, Gay Marriage Watch, to help keep our allies updated on marriage equality and gay rights news around the world – we’re now averaging more than 70,000 visitors on the blog each month, and we’re thrilled with its success.

In November, 2008, we were finally married (for the second time, after the state Supreme Court nixed our 2004 wedding) – and even though it rained throughout the ceremony, it was the perfect day. In fact, our favorite wedding photo was taken under an umbrella in the rain!

If you’re planning get married, congratulations! We wish you a beautiful, memorable day.
