Jardin Gorbeau Etretat Guesthouse & Spa – Gay Wedding Venue in Etretat, France

Jardin Gorbeau Etretat Guesthouse & Spa

Periodically we’ll feature one of our vendors here to let our readers know about some great people who can help you plan the perfect wedding.

The Jardin Gorbeau Etretat Guesthouse & Spa is a magnificent and meticulously restored 1824 city mansion, just 50 meters from the beach and famous cliffs at Etretat on the Normandy Coast. We offer five luxury suites, set around a beautiful garden. There’s also a spa and sauna, cinema screening room, gastronomic dinners, massages and well-being services on site.
We’re just two hours from Paris and 2 1/2 hours from Mont St Michel and the WWII invasion beaches.

Jon & Rik, a Dutch and American/Italian gay couple, are your hosts at the Jardin Gorbeau. Our home is Etretat’s oldest mansion, built when the village was a thriving fishing town. Before the French Revolution, Etretat supplied Marie Antoinette with oysters, as her private oysters beds were here and a caravan left for Versailles every day so she would never be without them.

In the mid 19th century Etretat became famous as a town of painters, writers and musicians. Monet lived here and painted many tableaux which are famous the world over. The Impressionist art movement began here. Offenbach lived here too, and composed many operettas here during his heyday. Guy de Maupassant too, and many of his stories are based here.

Our house was in the same family for nearly 200 years and when Jon found it, it had fallen into disrepair. He spent two years renovating the house, which is composed of three buildings around a garden. He tried to save original architectural elements and filled it with paintings, photography and objects from a lifetime of collecting.

We have five guest suites, all with modern equipment, double large showers, television, and wifi access. The beds are firm, orthopedic and large.

Our garden is home to many flowers and fruit trees, including a 100 year old pear tree, and many roses. And our three cats.

We opened to the public in 2007, and have been gratified by the wonderful response of the many guests who have stayed here. People from all over France, and the world, have stayed here. Please book early, as we are often full especially in the summer season and on weekends.

Etretat is a great place from which to discover Normandy. We are near Le Havre and the Seine valley, which means you can go west and east to visit France’s largest region.

We’re also just forty minutes from Honfleur, an hour from Rouen or Caen, and another hour to Mont St Michel and to the invasion beaches.

We can organize tours, nature walks, massages and sports, horse-riding, and other activities. There are very good museums of Impressionist art nearby, in Le Havre and in Honfleur, as well as a famous museum in Rouen.

In Caen you will find a superb museum of World War II documenting the French and American experience in Normandy.

We are an international couple, and between us we speak English, Dutch, French, German and Italian and we welcome all people, gay or straight, as long as they are friendly.

France is a gay-friendly country – and the old friend of the US from revolutionary days. Vive la France!

Tips for Having a Smooth Same-Sex Wedding Ceremony on Wedding Reality Check

Hi there!

Everybody always asks me what’s different about planning gay and lesbian weddings, versus one with one bride and one groom. The answer is that there isn’t really that much difference, it’s just important to make sure that you think through all the little parts and pieces that could be awkward if you try to handle them on the fly.

Tune in to Wedding Reality Check with Sandy Malone podcast HERE and learn what little details can be tricky to navigate if you don’t make decisions in advance. You don’t want to risk offending an important wedding VIP (like one of your moms) because you didn’t think through where and how to seat everybody. There are no rules for how you do it at a same-sex wedding, so if you don’t tell people what’s going on, they won’t know what to expect.

Have a listen and share the podcast with other same-sex couples who may be trying to avoid unnecessary potholes on their trip down the aisle.

Until next time, happy wedding planning from Sandy Malone Weddings & Events!

Sandy
