Gay Marriage Polls Over Time

Notes on the tables below: + indicates support of gay marriage, - indicates respondents are against gay marriage, and ? is undecided. Note: some polls combined the question of gay marriage and civil unions, so it was impossible to get a clear picture of support for either alone from these polls. In these cases, respondents in favor of gay marriage and civil unions were added together under the civil unions column, under the assumption that most in favor of gay marriage would also support civil unions. On the graphs, green represents in favor, red represents against, and yellow is undecided. For the results in the Yearly Poll averages table, we averaged the poll numbers for each response by year to get a top-level look at the changes in response since 1996.
