Whatever the mode, your Massachusetts marriage day will be treasured and remembered. Since 2004, the Honorable J. Mary (JM) Sorrell has had the privilege of being the wedding officiant for over 350 couples. This includes dozens of couples from around the world and other states and Massachusetts residents. Her fees remain extremely reasonable because JM's primary purpose is to serve. The diversity of our LGBTQ communities is reflected in our unique ways of expressing ourselves. Your needs and preferences for ceremony text and feeling will be honored when you call JM--- be it secular, spiritual, interfaith, simple or large--- you decide. When you hire JM, you will be grateful to have someone who is present, who cares, and who will either take or give direction based on your requests. She will offer you as much time as you need by email, by phone and in person. JM will provide templates for vows, the ring exchange and other ceremony components. Couples choose what is offered, edit documents to personalize the text, or feel inspired and then create more of their own words to use for the ceremony. Planning services include assistance with: ceremony sites (beautiful outdoor and indoor settings; some free of charge); lodging; restaurants; catering; and transportation. There is a three-day waiting period between marriage license application and the issuance of the license; however, a waiver may be granted by Probate Court. In Northampton (where JM is based), the process for application, waiver, and getting married all on the same day is simple. JM will assist couples whose time and resource limitations make this option more viable. She will help you with accommodations should you decide to stay in the area for a few days. The three-day waiting period includes weekend days, so you may apply for your license on a Friday and get it on a Monday. Northampton, aka Lesbianville, is a hip, easy-going, and very supportive place for LGBTQ people. The restaurants are plentiful, downtown is historic and very walkable, and bucolic Smith College is just at the edge of town.
