Our Wedding Story:
Kristen and I have been a committed couple for 18 years. We are both long-term sober women and met at a women's AA meeting in Seattle. We had a commitment ceremony in 1988.
For nearly 3 years we have been members of Saltwater Unitarian Universalist Church, Des Moines, WA. Our minister, Rev. Dr. James Kubal-Komoto, had already gone to Portland with another couple in our church to officiate at their wedding. He announced from the pulpit that he would go anywhere with any same sex couple of our church who wanted to get married because he believed it was a justice issue.
We decided to take him up on it and began planning our wedding. On Friday, April 16, 2004, we were married at the First Unitarian Church in Portland, OR, officiated by James and witnessed by 38 friends and family. Ring and Candle bearers were our 2 grandsons, readings were done by our daughter and son-in-law and another friend. It was a beautiful service!
